File specifications

The digital map and image files will be created at 300 dpi (required printing standard). The file will be provided in either PDF (Portable Document Format) or PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format depending on the level of graphical detail to guarantee high print quality.

Types of digital file orders

iMapStudio typically offers 3 types of digital file purchases:

  • Instant file downloads: Ready-made files in iMap Shop that are available once your payment is confirmed. It may take a few minutes for your download link to be sent to you.

  • Made-to-order (personalised) file downloads: Digital maps that iMapStudio will make to your specifications once you have provided the required details and placed an order. I will send your digital map to you once it has been completed, normally within 3-5 business days.

  • Custom order file downloads: These are the completely new, custom designed maps. Various levels of customisations are available, the pricing guide will help you out. These types of maps will be created based on your vision once you have shared your idea with me. The completion time is dependent on several factors. I will communicate with you during the process. See more details below.

How to print

File downloads allow for instant access and the flexibility to print in the size and format that suits you best. Print the map at home using your own printer, take it to your local print shop, or choose an online printing service for a professional finish. Print results will vary from stock and printers used.

iMap Pro Tip

It is recommended to use high-quality, white matte paper. For the best results, choose a medium-weight (200-300 gsm) paper type that can be used for wall display prints; it provides good support for heavier inks and can produce very sharp images. Make sure you flatten your prints before placing them into a frame.

Please note, that some of our maps are designed with a narrow, white border for various reasons, such as:

Aesthetics: A white border helps to frame the map, giving it a polished and professional appearance. It creates a natural space around the map element.

Printing Flexibility: A white border allows for flexibility when printing the map. It ensures that the image won't be cut off or distorted, especially if the print service scales the image to fit the chosen paper size. The border acts as a buffer zone, ensuring important elements remain intact.

Easier Matting and Framing: If the map is to be framed, a white border helps make the matting process easier and creates a clean separation between the artwork and the frame. It’s often more aesthetically pleasing to have a small border around the print when it’s being displayed.

Avoids Printing Issues: Many printers cannot print to the edge of the paper (especially cheaper printers), so a border ensures that there won’t be an accidental white margin or unwanted crop at the edges of the map.

If you would like to remove the white border, please Get in touch before ordering.
